Dr. Surendra Upadhyay is well known in the Sai family as a pioneer of International Medical Camps of the Sathya Sai International Organization, UK, and as a Member of the International Medical Committee. Dr. Surendra Upadhyay is an ophthalmologist that has been coordinating SSIO National and International Medical Camps and health awareness seminars all over the world since 1985.


Dr. Surendra Upadhyay is a Honorary Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist, UCL, London. Dr. Upadhyay has organized and led free eye treatment camps in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Bosnia, Zambia, and Kenya and in South America. He had the honor and privilege of working closely with our beloved Sathya Sai Baba and with Mother Theresa. In his volunteer medical service, Dr. Upadhyay says that he experiences that “service to man is service to God.” He has elaborated on the meaning of sacrifice as described by Sathya Sai Baba, is to love and serve those in need, without any personal reservations or expectations, to the best of one’s capacity. At the 2017 SSIO International Medical Conference, he was one of fourteen healthcare professionals and two volunteers, recognized by Dr. Narendranath Reddy, Chairman, Prasanthi Council, for their outstanding contributions and long-term dedication to Sathya Sai Global Health Mission and the practice of Sathya Sai Ideal Healthcare.

Dr. Sunam Gyamtso Tenzin has been blessed with many Divine interactions with Bhagavan Baba from childhood, having been called into His physical fold in the 1970s. He was a student of Sri Sathya Sai Institutions from high school through his doctoral studies. He is a wonderful speaker and a versatile musician with talents in singing, composing, and playing on the harmonium, tabla, accordion and much more. Being musically blessed, he has been inspired to compose many bhajans which have become part of regular bhajan sessions at Sai Centers around the world. These include bhajans such as:

Sunam was instrumental in composing the music for many of the plays and dramas that Bhagawan wrote and directed for the students. He currently lives in Gangtok, Sikkim, India.

Aparna Murali

Aparna feels very blessed to have been born in a Sai family- devotee parents and grandparents who came to Bhagawan in the early 60's. Aparna grew up in the city of Chennai where she attended Sathya Sai Education classes. Aparna attended the Sri Sathya Sai University (SSU), Anantapur Campus, graduating with Bachelors in Science. According to Aparna, this was the most critical turning point in her life in developing an inner relationship with Bhagawan. After graduating from Anantapur, Aparna was active amongst the SSU alumnus in Chennai, where she concurrently pursued a Masters in Psychology.

Aparna moved to the United States to pursue her second Masters in Genetic Counseling. Aparna currently consults as a genetics counselor in Los Angeles, providing counseling services for women whose pregnancy have been identified to be at a high risk for genetic conditions. Aparna has been active in the Organization and held leadership positions at all levels- as Center devotional Coordinator and Regional YA Coordinator. Aparna has actively been involved with SSE since 2005. For the past 7 years, Aparna has taught all age groups and is currently teaching Group 3 in Glendale SSE. As it is said, "A teacher is a perpetual student", Aparna draws her inspiration, encouragement and excitement from Bhagawan's eternal, yet practical wisdom. She currently serves as the USA National YA Coordinator and Zone 1 YA coordinator which includes Canada, Israel, West Indies and United States of America.

Consummate story teller, videographer, actor, poet and play writer, Aparna has spoken at Sai events in United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago as well in Prashanti Nilayam. Aparna remains deeply committed to Bhagawan, His teachings and seeks His grace to love Him and serve Him.
