Guest Speaker: Dr. Suresh Govind 

Professor Dr Suresh Govind is a Senior Professor and the former Head of the Department of Parasitology at Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. He has served as Deputy National Youth Coordinator, National Youth Coordinator, Vice President of Education, Deputy President and finally President for the Sathya Sai International Organization, Malaysia. He has been instrumental in many nation building programmes in the country and have, travelled extensively around the world upon invitation to speak to youth, educators and members of the organization on human values and selfless service. He has authored 7 books mainly on human values and the universal teachings of Bhagavan Baba. He is currently the Coordinator for community engagement for 120 countries under the Public Outreach Committee for the global SSIO as well as the Coordinator for the Friendship Group of Inter- Religious Service in Malaysia consisting of members from all the major religious groups.

He has published more than 140 scientific papers, presented more than 270 conference papers, and written several chapters in publications by World Health Organization. He has supervised more than 100 elective, diploma, graduate and post-graduate students including at doctorate level. He was the winner of the National Young Scientist Award, Malaysian Toray Grant Award, Commonwealth Scholarship Award, Gold Innovative award at the national level as well as the winner of GOLD medal at the international ITEX exhibition. He has also won the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Silver Medal, the Prime Minister’s Productivity award and the prestigious Malaysian Toray Science award as well as winning a few times the University Malaya excellence award. He was conferred the global Malayalee Award for research in 2015 and the National Educators Award from the Association of Private Institutions. In 2016 won the Parija Oration Award from the Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology for outstanding contribution to the field of Parasitology. He was conferred a Fellow to the Malaysian Academy of Science in 2015 and the prestigious Sandosham Gold medal for outstanding contribution to the field of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine. 

He has served as an expert member for the Drinking Water guidelines committee for the World Health Organization since 2004. He has also served as an International Consultant for Indian Ocean Center for Education in Human Values, Mauritius. He has been appointed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia to be a member of the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the committee for inter-faith promotion (JKMPKA) a board member to IKLIN, Chairman of the board of trustees for the Foundation for Unity Malaysia as well as a member of the board of directors for National Family Planning and Development Board.

Guest Speaker : Dr. Bharat Datt

Bharat Datt was drawn into Bhagawan’s presence for 12 years from 1982 to 1994 spanning 11th grade to his Masters in Bio-sciences in Prasanthi Nilayam. Following post-graduation, he worked as faculty and later at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences Puttaparthi. During his time, he was an integral part of the Parthi bhajan group singing bhajans in front of swami daily from 1984 to 1994. Bharat was also a part of a number of devotional musical programs performed at Guru Purnima, Maha Sivarathri, Swami’s birthday and others. He played in many recordings/performances including Rama katha and Sai katha and background music for many dramas directed by the lord himself. With Swami’s blessings he also had the opportunity to accompany on the harmonium great artists like MS Subbulakshmi, P Susheela, P Leela, Malaysia Vasudevan, Pandit Jasraj & Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He also accompanied the jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson on the Piano & the Accordion. Bharat has great passion for the bhajan genre and the fusion of western & Hindustani to augment devotion. He has also sang & produced 3 bhajan albums, Echoes of the Past, Eternal Quest & My Soul at your lotus Feet.

 

Currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana and is the Director of Perfusion Services at The Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.
